BLACK SABBATH The Dio Years [MVI DVD + Bonus CD] Warner Bros. / Rhino Records Street Date: March 11, 2008 ALBUM OVERVIEW: When Ronnie James Dio took over lead vocals for Black Sabbath after Ozzy Osbourne’s departure, he’d already sonically slayed audiences worldwide as front man for Elf and Rainbow. The creative spark ignited by Dio’s arrival – joining original Sabbath members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler – delivered the 1980 metal masterpiece Heaven And Hell, a Top 40 album considered one of group’s finest. 1981’s The Mob Rules followed, continuing Sabbath’s resurgence before Dio left for solo superstardom. His one-off return to Sabbath in 1992 produced Dehumanizer, and whetted fans’ appetites for more. The wait was rewarded with this unprecedented compilation, now available as a Music Video Interactive (MVI) disc loaded with bonus features and content. The Dio Years collects the best of Black Sabbath’s past Dio incarnations and adds three tracks newly recorded in 2006. The chemistry between Dio, Iommi, Butler, and Vinny Appice at those sessions was so explosive that they reunited in 2007 for the sold-out “Heaven And Hell Live Tour”, one of the year’s true concert highlights.
